Rays Grab the Top While Padres Charge

AUGUST 16, 2026

A quick lap of the standings, offenses and pitching staffs.

It's a tight race at the top, and Tampa Bay now sits first at 74-48 after a 4-2 week. Below them the Padres are the story, surging five spots on the strength of a 5-1 run.

Power Rankings

Power ranking — record, run differential and recent form, blended into one order. Tap a team for its week.

The Rays climbed three spots to number one, riding a 13-for-28 week from Yandy Díaz and a plus-17 run differential. Right behind, the Cubs made their own jump on the back of Alex Bregman, who hit four homers and drove in ten with a 1.394 OPS; the Brewers, still owners of the best record at 76-48, slipped a bit after a 3-4 week and a minus-8 differential. And keep an eye on San Diego, up to seventh after going 5-1.

Best offenses

Team OPS — on-base plus slugging. Higher is better.

The Nationals lead all lineups at .766 team OPS, a nose ahead of the Dodgers at .763 and the Cubs at .755. It's tighter than the order suggests, but Washington's bats are quietly setting the pace.

Best rotation

Starting rotation ERA — starters only. Lower is better.
